Why We Built Ilum

Ilum was born out of years of firsthand experience and frustration with the limitations of platforms like Cloudera, Hortonworks, and pure Apache Hadoop. As data engineers, we worked tirelessly with these solutions, facing constant challenges in scalability, maintenance, and flexibility.

When the industry began shifting toward Kubernetes, we saw the potential to streamline these processes, but we quickly realized there were no production-ready options that fully supported diverse environments—cloud, on-premises, and hybrid.

Driven by this need, we decided to create our own solution.

Ilum is designed to be the flexible, powerful Data Lakehouse platform we wished existed: one that allows organizations to deploy and manage their data infrastructure on their terms, regardless of the environment. Our goal is to simplify data operations and empower teams with a platform that is robust, adaptable, and truly built for the future.
